The short version
This website does not show adverts. It provides free revision content and uses Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, and a Google Ads tag to measure whether our own advertising leads people to download a workbook. Nothing on this site builds an advertising profile of you or follows you around other websites. Analytics and measurement cookies are only used with your consent, which you set through our cookie banner and can change at any time. Videos play directly on our pages and only load from YouTube after you press “Watch” and allow Marketing cookies. Any reading options or video progress you choose are saved only on your own device, never sent to us. Our workbooks are free: we ask for an email address so we can send them, and nothing more.
1. Who we are
IGCSE Science Revision is a trading name operated by Christopher Scargill, who is responsible for this website. You can contact us about privacy at:
Email: hello@igcsesciencerevision.comWe are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator.
2. What information we collect
The only personal information we ask for on this website is an email address, and whether you are a student or an adult, when you request the free workbooks. There is no account and no login. We do not sell information to anyone. With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, including pages viewed and general browser or device information. We also use a Google Ads tag to understand whether our own advertising leads people to download a workbook. These services are covered in “Cookies and browser storage” below.
We do not show adverts on this website and we do not use behavioural or personalised advertising. We do not build a profile of you, and we do not share information about you with advertisers.
If you choose to email us, we will receive your email address and whatever you put in your message, and we use that only to respond to you. We keep such emails only for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry.
Some features — the reading options you choose and the videos you mark as watched — are saved on your own device using your browser's local storage. This information stays on your device, is not linked to your identity, and is never sent to us or anyone else. You can clear it at any time (see “Cookies and browser storage” below).
3. Getting the free workbooks
Our workbooks are free. To send them to you we ask for your email address, and whether you are a student or a parent or teacher. That is all we ask for. We do not ask for your name, your age, your school or anything else.
The download is never conditional on anything. You get the workbooks whether or not you tick the box asking to hear from us again. They download directly from this website as soon as you submit the form.
We ask whether you are a student or an adult for one reason: most people using this site are 14 to 16, and we send emails about paid products only to parents and teachers. Students who sign up hear from us only about new free resources.
Emails from us. We only send you emails beyond the workbooks themselves if you actively ticked the box asking us to. That box is never ticked for you. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect straight away. You can also unsubscribe here at any time without needing one of our emails to hand. We never sell, rent or share your email address, and we do not use it for advertising.
Your email address is held by our email provider purely so we can send you what you asked for. If you unsubscribe, or ask us to delete your address, we remove it.
Lawful basis. We send the workbooks on the basis of your request. We send anything further on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time without giving a reason.
We previously sold the workbooks through Payhip. They are now free and delivered directly from this website, so no payment provider is involved and no card details are collected anywhere on this site.
4. Cookies and browser storage
When you first visit, a cookie banner (provided by Cookiebot) asks which cookies you allow. Until you give consent, only strictly necessary cookies are used and advertising or measurement cookies are not set. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the panel at the end of this section.
If you allow Statistics cookies, this website uses Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, such as which pages are visited and the general type of browser or device used. If you allow Marketing cookies, the website uses the Google Ads tag to measure whether someone who clicked one of our adverts later completed a workbook purchase. This measures the performance of our own advertising. It is not used to show adverts to you, and it is not used to build a profile of you for targeting. If you do not give the relevant consent, these cookies are not set. You can read more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
We previously used Google AdSense to show adverts and a Microsoft Advertising UET tag for conversion measurement. Both have been removed, and neither sets cookies on this site any more. If your browser still holds cookies from a previous visit, you can clear them through your browser's settings.
To make the site easier to use, it saves small pieces of information in your browser's local storage, on your own device. Specifically, this remembers the reading options you choose (such as text size, easy-reading font, line spacing, dark mode, reduced motion and focus mode) and which videos you have marked as watched, so your settings and progress are still there next time. This information is stored only on your device, is not linked to your identity, is never sent to us or any third party, and is not used for advertising. You can remove it at any time using the “Reset to defaults” button in the reading options, the “Reset section” button on a topic page, or by clearing your browser's site data.
Our revision videos use the standard YouTube embedded player. The player only loads when you choose to play a video and have allowed Marketing cookies through Cookiebot. If you have not allowed Marketing cookies, the page displays a consent message instead and sends no request to YouTube. Once the player loads, YouTube may set cookies or use similar technologies on your device to operate the player, remember preferences and count the view, under Google's privacy policy. If you do not play a video or do not allow Marketing cookies, the YouTube player does not load.
Google processes information under Google's privacy policy. You can control personalised advertising and ad-measurement choices through your Google account and browser settings.
The list below is generated and kept up to date by our consent tool. It shows every cookie used on this site, grouped by purpose, with a record of your current choice, and lets you change or withdraw your consent.
5. Hosting and server logs
Our website is hosted by IONOS. Like most web hosts, IONOS may automatically record limited technical information in server logs, such as IP addresses and browser information, to keep the website running and secure. This is used only for operating and protecting the site and is kept only for as long as reasonably needed.
6. Links to other websites
This site links to YouTube. When you follow such links, you leave this website and the relevant provider's own privacy policy and cookies apply. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of external websites.
7. Children
This website supports IGCSE students, so many visitors are aged 14 to 16. We take that seriously and follow the Information Commissioner's Age Appropriate Design Code, also called the Children's Code.
In plain terms, if you are a student using this site:
- You do not need an account, and you never have to tell us your name, age or school.
- If you download a workbook we ask for an email address so we can send it. You still get the workbook if you say no to anything else.
- We do not show you adverts.
- We do not build a profile of you and we do not follow you around other websites.
- We never sell or share information about you.
- Your reading settings and the videos you mark as watched stay on your own device. We cannot see them.
- If you say no to cookies, the site still works. You do not lose any revision content by refusing.
8. The revision app
The IGCSE Science Revision app runs on a separate address, app.igcsesciencerevision.com, and works differently from this website: it has accounts, it is paid for, and it saves your revision progress. It is covered by its own privacy notice, which you will find within the app. That notice explains what an account holds, how payment works and how to download or delete your information.
9. Your rights and complaints
Where we hold any personal information about you (for example, an email you have sent us or order details), you have rights under UK data protection law, including to ask for a copy, to have it corrected or erased, and to object to its use. Contact us using the email address above.
Making a complaint to us. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, email hello@igcsesciencerevision.com with “Data protection complaint” in the subject line. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and respond as quickly as we reasonably can. You do not need to use any particular wording, and you do not need to have bought anything from us.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data-protection regulator, and you can do that whether or not you have complained to us first: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
10. Changes to this notice
We will update this notice if our website or our use of information changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated, along with a note of what changed.
