Compare arteries, veins and capillaries.
Arteries — thick muscular/elastic walls, high pressure, carry blood from the heart. Veins — thinner walls, valves, low pressure, carry blood to the heart. Capillaries — one cell thick, allow exchange.
Why do veins contain valves?
To prevent the low-pressure blood from flowing backwards.
